This was
my 16th Birthday Present in 2003. This movie was actually shown in
the Millennium Dome as a part of Great Britain’s 2000 celebrations. In it, Lord
Blackadder and his lackey, Baldrick, journey through Britain’s history in a
Leonardo da Vinci-designed (and suspiciously TARDIS-like) time machine. If you
don’t know anything about “Blackadder,” it’s still funny, but it helps to be a
fan of the original show. There's a lot of sparkling writing on display, but the toilet humor gets old after a while. Rik Mayall's Robin Hood is definitely a high point.
I bought
this at Evergreen Park Public Library’s book sale in August 2012. It
prominently features the under-construction Millennium Dome (James Bond rolls
down the dome part) and maybe the Millennium Eye (the Ferris wheel) during the
pre-credits teaser. At the end, R (John Cleese) mentions the Millennium Bug.
Though normally reviled among Bond aficionados for one reason or another, I
have a soft spot for “The World is Not Enough.” High points include the opening Q-Boat chase sequence, the ski chase, and the sight of a buzzsaw-equipped helicopter splitting Bond's brand-new BMW in half.
